This expansion marks an exciting milestone, offering law firms the opportunity to amplify their firm’s laudable case work, successes for clients and impact on significant legal matters.
Best Lawyers is excited to expand our partnership with Handelsblatt, who we have had a dynamic relationship with for over 15 years. Our alliance brings together Best Lawyers’ unparalleled expertise with Handelsblatt’s esteemed media platform, the leading source of business and financial news in Germany. Through this collaborative endeavor, we will continue to showcase the top local legal talent, provide invaluable insights into the market and assist legal professionals and clients alike in their search for the best legal service providers. Together we set a standard for excellence in the German market by fostering transparency in research methodology and credibility in awards.
On 11 April 2024, Best Lawyers and Best Law Firms will begin outreach to firms in Germany that have at least one lawyer awarded in the current edition of The Best Lawyers in Germany™. The Best Law Firms International Team will send eligible firms a Submission Packet, which includes three key components for participating firms:
- A list of practice areas and jurisdictions in which the eligible firm qualifies for Best Law Firms – Germany rankings.
- A Law Firm Survey for the firm to fill out, intended to include information about the firm’s work over the past year.
- Client/Professional Reference submissions, which are the names of clients and other contacts associated with the firm who can speak to the strengths of the law firm via a brief survey emailed from Best Lawyers.

A History of Best Law Firms
Best Law Firms was founded in 2010 as a way to honor law firms of exceptional talent. Through a wholistic submission process that takes into account not only a firm’s work but also the honest considerations from those who have hired the firm, Best Law Firms became one of the top legal rankings nationwide. By expanding these efforts, international firms are offered the chance to participate in submissions and potentially earn rankings for their own work.
In 2023, Best Lawyers officially announced the international expansion of the revered Best Law Firms awards with Best Law Firms™ – Australia. Best Law Firms is currently in its 15th edition in the United States, and after many successful years highlighting the legal talent across the U.S., which for 2024 edition ranked more than 16,000 U.S. law firms, prompted the global expansion of the Best Law Firms methodology and awards system.
